Success Story: Shoebox campaign – Countless Smiles in Sierra Leone

In 2023, the Wegdam Foundation first launched the ‘shoebox campaign’ turned hundreds of ordinary shoeboxes into extraordinary gifts for children in Sierra Leone. Filled with school supplies, hygiene products, toys, and love, each box became a symbol of care, connection, and hope.

Thanks to the overwhelming participation from schools, families, and individuals in the Netherlands, countless children in the George Brook community received a personalized package, many for the very first time in their lives.

The success of this project shows what happens when compassion becomes action. Each donated box brought joy, dignity, and opportunity into the lives of children growing up in poverty.
