Clean drinking water project at Kamakenyen village

Water well in Karene District – Kamakenyen village

Access to clean water is a daily challange in the Karene District, where people often have to walk long distances to fetch water from unreliable sources.

To help address this need, the Wegdam Foundation supports the construction of a local water well.

We give thanks and appreciation to all our supporters and donors, especially our local contact Santigie and the WEYONE Foundation  for the unwavering efforts to help the people of Sierra Leone.

In the remote village of Kamakenyen, Sierra Leone, construction is currently underway on a new borehole to provide clean drinking water. This marks the first development initiative of its kind in this long-overlooked community. Wegdam Foundation is the first charitable organization to begin such vital work in the area. Local residents have expressed appreciation for the effort to reach underserved populations in hard-to-reach regions.

Project Start: Clean Water for Kamakenyen – A New Chapter Begins

05-07-2025

The Wegdam Foundation proudly launched a clean drinking water project in Kamakenyen, a remote village in Sierra Leone’s Karene District. This community had long been without access to safe and reliable water — a basic need that many of us take for granted.

In partnership with local stakeholders, we began preparations for the construction of a borehole that would provide sustainable access to clean water. For Kamakenyen, this marked not only the beginning of a construction project, but also the beginning of hope, health, and opportunity.

With the strong support of our donors and the commitment of our local team on the ground, the project quickly gained momentum. The energy and anticipation among residents were tangible — for many, this was the first sign of outside support in decades.

This initiative is part of our broader mission to invest in underserved communities and bring lasting change to areas that are too often forgotten. The journey began with Kamakenyen, but we know it won’t end there.
